The nutritional value of tuna is of utmost importance as it is a very good source of protein, vitamins and minerals. Protein is of course essential for tissue growth and restoration of tissue damage. Tuna provides the body with a sufficient amount of phosphorus, which is present in all cells of the body, it is also involved in almost all the bodies functions, such as formation and maintenance of bone, tooth development, it is necessary for the growth of muscle tissue and is a component of the nucleic acids and helps maintain osmotic pressure and acid-base balance of blood.

The potassium and sodium also help regulate the osmotic pressure within the cells as well as contributing to the maintenance of acid-base balance and the transport of substances into and out of cells. Selenium is also an essential mineral for the body and is part of enzymatic reactions. Selenium replaces the need for vitamin E and vice versa, further aiding acts on the immune response of the body, and also has protective properties against cancer. Tuna belongs in the fatty fish category, which is characterized by high levels of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

The packaged tuna also contain the same high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, and it provides an easy and economical way to enjoy all the benefits of eating tuna. One of the most important benefits of omega-3 fatty acids is the protection from various cardiovascular diseases. Several epidemiological studies have presented results showing that populations often fed with fish, and in particular the so-called fatty fish, have reduced mortality rates from cardiovascular diseases. This is due to the inhibition of the process of atherosclerosis. It has been found that omega-3 fatty acids reduce the concentrations of various plasma. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids help in the prevention of vascular thrombosis.

Thrombosis is a serious complication of atherosclerosis of the coronary vessels, which can lead to myocardial infarction. Cardiovascular protection provided by tuna is due to the fact that omega - 3 fatty acids reduce triglyceride levels in the blood while reducing blood pressure. Scientific studies have shown the beneficial effects of the intake of omega - 3 fatty acids such as vision and brain function, to prevent carcinogenesis and reduction of pain in inflammation, occurrence of asthma, cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia.
